Quran
| Key Takeaways |
| The Quran describes Allah creating the heavens and earth in six days (Ayyam), referenced across multiple surahs including Al-A’raf and Fussilat. |
| Allah created water as the foundation of all living things, as stated in Surah Al-Anbiya (21:30), before forming the earth and sky. |
| The Quran names Adam (AS) as the first human, created from clay and honored with the divine breath of the Ruh (soul). |
| Angels were commanded to bow to Adam (AS) in recognition of his unique status — all obeyed except Iblis, who refused out of arrogance. |
| The creation story appears across many Quranic surahs, not in one chapter — making Tafsir study essential for understanding it fully. |
Every child asks it eventually: “Where did everything come from?” Before science textbooks and classroom answers, the Quran gives us something far more profound — a story of creation told by the One Who made it all.
The Quran story of creation for kids is not one single chapter but a beautiful picture spread across multiple surahs, each adding a piece to the whole. When parents narrate it together, stage by stage, children encounter Allah’s power and wisdom in the most personal and memorable way possible.
1. Before Anything Existed, There Was Only Allah
Before the stars, before the earth, before darkness or light — there was only Allah. Nothing else existed. No sky to look up at. No ground to stand on. No water, no wind, no sound.
Allah has always existed and will always exist. He does not need anything. He does not get tired. He was complete, perfect, and powerful — all by Himself — before He chose to create anything at all.
Tell your child: “Close your eyes and imagine nothing — no floor beneath you, no ceiling above you, no sound anywhere. That is how it was before Allah created the world. And then Allah said: ‘Be!’ — and things began.”
This is how we introduce the concept of Allah’s absolute power. Children understand contrast — the dramatic shift from nothing to everything captures their imagination far better than any abstract explanation.
In our experience teaching Islamic Studies for Kids at Buruj Academy, stories that begin with stillness and silence hold a child’s attention from the very first sentence.

2. Allah Created the Heavens and the Earth in Six Days
Allah created the heavens and the earth — and everything between them — in six days. These are not ordinary days like ours. They are called Ayyam (أَيَّام), and Allah knows best their true measure.
What matters for our children is this: Allah created everything in a perfect, ordered sequence — not all at once, but step by step.
Allah tells us in the Quran:
إِنَّ رَبَّكُمُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ فِى سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٍ
Inna Rabbakumu-Allahu alladhee khalaqa as-samawati wal-ardha fee sittati ayyam
“Indeed, your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and earth in six days.” (Al-A’raf 7:54)
Tell your child: “Imagine if you were building the most incredible sandcastle ever made — the biggest, most beautiful one in the world. You would plan it carefully, build it piece by piece, and every part would have its place. Allah built something infinitely greater — and He created every single piece perfectly.”
3. Allah Created Water Before Everything Else
One of the most astonishing things the Quran tells us about creation is this: all living things were made from water.
Before the mountains, before the trees, before the animals — Allah established water as the foundation of life itself.
Wa ja’alna mina al-ma’i kulla shay’in hayy
“And We made from water every living thing.” (Al-Anbiya 21:30)
Tell your child: “Think about every creature you love — fish, birds, butterflies, elephants. What do they all need to survive? Water! And Allah told us this in the Quran over 1,400 years ago. Every living thing — including you — carries water inside.”

4. Allah Separated the Sky and the Earth
The Quran describes the heavens and the earth as once being joined together — a single mass — before Allah separated them. This is one of those Quranic truths that leaves even adults in awe.
Awa lam yara alladhina kafaru anna as-samawati wal-ardha kaanata ratqan fafataqnahuma
“Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, then We separated them?” (Al-Anbiya 21:30)
Tell your child: “Imagine a giant ball of dough — sky and earth all squished together in one lump. Then Allah pulled them apart — powerfully — spreading the sky up high and shaping the earth below.”
Allah then spread the earth, placed firm mountains on it so it would not shake, and made rivers flow between them. He filled the sky with clouds, stars, and the sun and moon — each moving in its own perfect path, never colliding, never confused.

5. Allah Filled the Earth with Plants, Animals, and Wonders
Once the earth was formed and water flowed, Allah filled it with life — every color, every texture, every sound that makes our world so breathtakingly beautiful.
Tall forests of trees. Fields of flowers in colors we cannot even count. Fruits and vegetables growing from the ground. Birds with wings that catch the wind. Fish that glow in the deepest oceans. Insects smaller than a fingernail, elephants bigger than a house.
Tell your child: “Every time you see a butterfly or touch the bark of a tree, you are looking at something Allah made.”
The Quran reminds us that everything on earth was made in exact measure — not random, not accidental:
وَالْأَرْضَ مَدَدْنَاهَا وَأَلْقَيْنَا فِيهَا رَوَاسِيَ وَأَنبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ شَيْءٍ مَّوْزُونٍ
“And the earth – We have spread it and cast therein firmly set mountains and caused to grow therein [something] of every well-balanced thing.” (Al-Hijr 15:19)
Every creature has its place. Every plant has its purpose. Every river has its path. SubhanAllah.

This is the moment children always wait for. After everything — the sky, the earth, the mountains, the plants, the animals — Allah created something new. Something unlike anything else He had ever made.
He created the first human being: Adam (AS).
Allah formed Adam from clay — from the very earth He had already created. He shaped him with His own hands. And then — in an act of honor unlike anything in creation — Allah breathed His own Ruh (soul) into him.
Wa idh qāla Rabbuka lil-malā’ikati innee khāliqun basharan min ṣalṣālin min ḥama’in masnoon
“And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, “I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud.” (Al-Hijr 15:28)
Adam (AS) was not just alive. He could think. He could speak. He could love. He could choose. He was different from every animal and every angel — and Allah honored him above all of creation.
In Buruj’s Quran and Islamic calsses, children often ask our Ijazah-certified teachers: “Why did Allah create Adam?” — and that question alone teaches them to think deeply about the Quran’s details.

7. Allah Taught Adam the Names of All Things
The moment Adam (AS) opened his eyes, Allah began teaching him. Not slowly, not over years — but with divine knowledge, directly from Allah Himself.
Allah taught Adam the names of everything — every creature, every object, every concept. This was a special honor given to humans alone. The angels, for all their worship and devotion, did not have this knowledge.
Wa ‘allama Ādama al-asmā’a kullahā
“And He taught Adam the names of all things.” (Al-Baqarah 2:31)
Tell your child: “Adam (AS) could name the trees, the animals, the stars, the rivers. Allah gave him knowledge as a gift — and humans have been learning ever since. Every time you learn something new, you are following in Adam’s footsteps.”
This is why seeking knowledge is so beloved in Islam. The very first human was a student — and his Teacher was Allah.
8. Allah Commanded the Angels to Bow to Adam
After creating Adam (AS) and filling him with knowledge, Allah announced something extraordinary to the angels. He commanded them all — every single one — to bow down to Adam (AS) as a sign of honor and respect.
The angels obeyed immediately — except for one. Iblis refused.
Iblis was not an angel — he was a jinn who had spent so long worshipping Allah that he was given a place among the angels. But when Allah commanded the bow, Iblis refused out of arrogance. He said: “I am better than him. You made him from clay — You made me from fire.”
Wa idh qulnā lil-malā’ikati usjudū li-Ādama fasajadū illā Ibleesa abā wastakbara
“And [mention] when We said to the angels, ‘Prostrate before Adam’; so they prostrated, except for Iblees. He refused and was arrogant.” (Al-Baqarah 2:34)
Tell your child: “The angels bowed — because they love and obey Allah completely. But Iblis thought he was better than Adam. That pride — thinking ‘I am better than others’ — was the first sin. And it cost Iblis everything.”
| Character | Response to Allah’s Command | Result |
| All Angels | Bowed immediately in obedience | Honored and beloved |
| Iblis | Refused with arrogance | Cast out and cursed |
| Adam (AS) | Honored by Allah’s command | First Khalifah on earth |
This moment teaches children one of Islam’s most powerful lessons: arrogance is a poison, and obedience to Allah is the highest dignity.

9. Allah Placed Adam and Hawwa in Jannah
After all of this, Allah placed Adam (AS) in Jannah — a garden of paradise more beautiful than anything on earth. And Allah created Hawwa (AS), his companion and partner, so he would not be alone.
They lived in Jannah together, surrounded by abundance. Allah gave them permission to enjoy everything — with one exception. One tree was forbidden.
Allah gave them a choice. And Iblis, now their enemy, worked to deceive them. Eventually, both Adam and Hawwa (AS) ate from the forbidden tree — and immediately knew they had made a mistake.
Tell your child: “Have you ever done something you were told not to do — and felt sorry the moment after? That feeling is important. Adam and Hawwa (AS) felt it too. And what they did next is the most important part.”
They turned to Allah immediately. They said:
Rabbanā ẓalamnā anfusanā wa in lam taghfir lanā wa tarḥamnā lanakunanna minal-khāsireen
“Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers.” (Al-A’raf 7:23)
Allah forgave them. He is Al-Ghafoor, Al-Raheem — the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful.
10. Allah Sent Adam to Earth as His Khalifah
After the forgiveness, Allah sent Adam and Hawwa (AS) to the earth — not as punishment alone, but as a divine appointment. Adam (AS) was to be the first Khalifah: Allah’s representative on earth.
Wa idh qāla Rabbuka lil-malā’ikati innee jā’ilun fil-arḍi khalīfah
“And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, ‘Indeed, I will make upon the earth a successive authority [Khalifah].'” (Al-Baqarah 2:30)
Tell your child: “Allah sent Adam (AS) to earth not because He was angry forever. Adam (AS) was chosen to be the first leader on earth. And every human being — including you — carries that honor.”
This is where the human story truly begins. The earth was not a prison. It was a purpose.
