“He said, ‘My Lord, indeed I invited my people to You night and day.'” (Nuh 71:5)

Faqāla al-mala’u alladhīna kafarū min qawmihī mā narāka illā basharan mithlunā

“The eminent among his people who disbelieved said, ‘We see you not but as a man like ourselves.'” (Hud 11:27)

They arrogantly demanded he bring the very divine punishment he warned them about. Consequently, the atmosphere became unbearably hostile. Nuh faced constant verbal attacks, and his few followers suffered severe persecution.

Eventually, after a monumental struggle that spanned almost a millennium, Nuh turned to God in solemn supplication. He confessed that his people would never abandon their disbelief. Furthermore, their continued existence would only spread corruption and lead subsequent generations astray. 

Therefore, he formally requested God’s decisive intervention. God immediately responded to Nuh’s prayer, revealing that the community had exhausted its opportunity for repentance. No more people would believe. Thus, the time for the divine judgment had finally arrived.

“You mock us now, but soon, we shall mock you in turn. Then, you will certainly know upon whom the humiliating punishment will descend.”

The Deluge and Salvation in Prophet Noah Story

The moment of divine reckoning arrived swiftly when God commanded Nuh to board the Ark. First, Nuh brought aboard the essential pairs of every living creature—male and female—to secure the survival of life after the cataclysm. Next, he gathered his family and all the followers who sincerely believed in his message, excluding those who had earned God’s punishment.

Tragically, Nuh’s own son stood among the non-believers, stubbornly refusing to heed his father’s final plea. Nuh desperately called out,

“O my son, come aboard with us and be not with the disbelievers.” 

The son, blinded by arrogance, retorted,

“I will find shelter on a mountain; it will protect me from this water.” Nuh responded with profound sorrow, knowing the inevitable: “Today, nothing protects against the decree of Allah, except he who receives His mercy.”

“the waves came between them, and he was among the drowned.”

“In the Name of Allah is its course and its anchorage.” Therefore, their wooden vessel stood as a clear symbol of God’s precision and Nuh’s perfect trust.

After the swirling waters had submerged the highest peaks, fulfilling the promise of purification, the command echoed:

“O earth, swallow your water, and O sky, hold back your rain!” 

The storm instantly ceased. The waters receded rapidly, and the Ark found rest upon Mount Judi. Nuh, the righteous few, and the preserved creatures disembarked, ready to begin a new, pure civilization on the regenerated earth.

The Covenant After the Flood Established Noah as Father of a New Humanity

When the waters receded and the ark rested on Al-Judi, Allah addressed Noah with words of peace and blessing, establishing a new beginning for humanity.

قِيلَ يَا نُوحُ اهْبِطْ بِسَلَامٍ مِّنَّا وَبَرَكَاتٍ عَلَيْكَ وَعَلَىٰ أُمَمٍ مِّمَّن مَّعَكَ

Qīla yā Nūhu ihbiṭ bi-salāmin minnā wa barakātin ‘alayka wa ‘alā umamin mimman ma’ak

“It was said, ‘O Noah, disembark in security from Us and blessings upon you and upon nations [descending] from those with you.'” (Hud 11:48)
